LOS ANGELES, CA — A man was sentenced yesterday to one month in County Jail for killing his wife's 6-week-old kitten by baking it in a microwave oven during a drunken rage over her going to a movie with a friend.

George Jimenez, 26, also was placed on two years' probation, ordered to undergo psychological counseling and forbidden to annoy, harass or molest his wife.

He told her:
"If you don't want to see what's in the microwave, don't open it."

He was sentenced by Municipal Court Judge Suzanne Person after pleading no contest to a charge of cruelty to animals.

He was accused of killing his wife's kitten on September 16 by baking it in a microwave oven after finding a note saying that his wife had gone to a movie with a female friend.

When she returned home that evening, she saw furniture thrown around the house and immediately left and spent the evening at her sister's home. She phoned her husband the next day and was told by him: "If you don't want to see what's in the microwave, don't open it."
